Do any of you run a dehumidifier in your soap room?? And, if so, how often do you run it?

We had a few really humid days this past summer so I bought a dehumidifier and was running it to help cut down the moisture. Then, I started running it daily - at a very low setting. I do think that it helps the soaps cure but I'm wondering if it also is causing the fragrances to fade a bit. Even some of my stronger scents seem a bit more mellow that usual.

Or...maybe it's just my nose!!

I've been considering getting one...I'd love to hear what others have to say. July and August it's humid here, so it seemed slow going in the cure department until recently...

I Nearly did! A few years back I did all the research and got as far as looking at models and running costs and then I don't know what happened but I didn't get it. I did make a "drying cupboard" though.

I recall that there were posts somewhere that if you left it on too long, or in too confined a room some of the fragrance could be depleted. I think there were people in the UK who had very damp storage rooms who were really happy with theirs.

It really DOES help with the curing, but I am going to turn it off for a while and just run it on low on days that are humid (which maybe won't be until next summer because now I'll have the heater on). It is in a confined space and I was running it 24/7.

I have a dehumidifier and when I have made a lot of soap , it takes a lot of moisture out of the air and needs emptying every 2nd day otherwise once a week .We don't live in a humid climate either , rather on the dry side .

Hi Kitn:

1. How often do you run your dehumidifier?
2. Have you noticed if it has affected the fragrances in your soaps (dulled them a bit)?

I've got my unit shut off for the time being but I may run it when I make new fizzies and on humid days (which may not be until next spring/summer now).

I use a dehumidifier in our basement where I cure my soap during the summer when it gets quite humid. I had it and used it before i started making soap. I do think it helps a lot with the cure, especially if the air is humid. Mine is automatic, so it can be set to shut off when the humidity reaches a certain percentage and it doesn't run constantly, just when needed. (Which is pretty much all summer ;-) ) I haven't noticed any more or less fading of fragrances when it has been on, but again, it's only for a couple months of the year. Hope this helps.

Yes, it does help - THANKS!

I think that I'm going to keep my off during the winter. We live in WI and pretty much have the heat going all during the colder months. So, the air is probably pretty dry during those times, anyway.
