Can someone tell me how to keep my layers from separating? I hardly ever have any trouble with soap unless I do layers. I used the same recipe I always use. I used a FO I have used many times that never gives me any trouble. I poured the first layer, waited about twelve hours and poured the second. I tried to cut it after it sat in the mold for about eighteen hours. I stopped after two bars because the two layers keep breaking into. Can this be stopped? Thanks!

Both layers need to completely gel to adhere to each other. Can your mold go in the oven?

I was wondering if some of the problem was the time span between layers. I seldom layer but when I do it is done about 5-10 min apart. I wait long enough for the first layer to set up. I do this cp, no oven time and I have not had a problem with separation.

I don't know if they can go in the oven. They are wooden log molds with one removable end. Is it too late to try to put it in the oven? Thanks!

So it's been like 2 days since you've made it? It might be too late. If you HP it now, it would take a long time for the soap to go back into gel and the layers might not adhere.
I put my wooden mold in the oven with no problems. I use low temp and as soon as it's in full gel, I take it out and let it cool off.

I attempted a flag soap one time, and while the flags turned out ugly (operator error) the layers DID adhere. What I did was make a batch of solid red one day, sliced, then used raw (white) soap to "glue" the already set red layers together. No layer separation. :D

Gelling together is the best insurance, I find. Yes, wooden molds can go in the oven - and I've done layers a day or two apart. Putting the entire thing in the oven will send the old stuff back into gel.

As a side note, if you get partial gel, you can oven it even days later and get rid of the telltale ring.
