hi all,

first of all would like to say thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge so generously - I've been lurking round for months and have already made two batches!... with so so results  I started reading your posts from oldest to most recent and wow!! There’s so much info here!!
now of course I have a question :D something I haven’t read anywhere so far... possibly because it doesnt make sense ..
I've tried rebatching and I have to say successfuly (will post pics some other time). On that occassion I've rebatched soap that had already cured for about 5 weeks, now would a soap that hasn't cured that long "cure" somehow through rebatching? I know this might be a really stupid question sorry! just that I read a lot about HP and though that maybe you could complete the entire process through rebatching as well. no?

thanks!
Anais

now I'm reading this and wonder if anyone would understand my question  all I want to know is would it still be caustic or would the saponification process be done like in HP? I know it would definitely require drying (with extra liquid added) but would it be safe to use?

thank you so much and pls excuse my ditziness

I hope I'm understanding your question correctly - if you rebatch soap newer soap, anytime after 24 hours it should be safe to use, once the saponification process is complete. All the lye will have reacted with the oils and the soap will no longer be caustic, although it won't be fully "cured". The cure really just allows the soap to harden while the water evaporates out, it's safe to use after 24 hours or so, depending upon your recipe and the temps used. I hope this helps!

thanks Kim that does answer my question! this is the recipe I would like to use, any thoughts? I read that more then 20% coconut oil may be drying but I thought I should try slightly more (understand it makes good lather?), see if my skin likes it and then go from there. + I have mixed oily skin

Coconut oil 23%
Olive oil 35%
Palm oil 25%
Sunflower oil 7%
Beeswax 1.5%
Shea butter 8.5%

last two (and only) times I've soaped it was at 42 C, I think thats about 115F

would love to hear your thoughts on the recipe

thanks!

I would lower your coconut to 20% and add the difference to the olive. I would also soap cooler, maybe at around 110 degrees.
