I don't quite understand what your saying about canola oil turning rancid and causing DOS in soap. I've alwasy got a bottle or 2 in the cupbord to fry food with sometimes for over a year and if it went bad Id notice. What is it's shelf life?

is it possible for it to go bad and I not know ??? :? Does it do the same thing for soap as olive oil?

I live in a very dry climate and Canola goes bad really fast here as well. Olive oil has a longer shelf life.

When talking about shelf life with oils, are you talking the shelf life starts once you open the bottle and expose it to air or if it's just sitting on the shelf unopened? Is this a stupid question? Thanks.
