Hello All-
I recently made a CPOP batch which I colored only with ground cinnamon. I poured it into a 1/2 gallon milk carton, insulated it and then uncovered & cut it after about 14 hours. When I cut it it had a nice uniform deep-brown color throughout. I let it cure for 4 weeks, then cut a bar in half to give some to my neighbor. It literally looked like a Reese's peanut butter cup! It had a dark ring around the outside, and the inside was a light peanut-buttery color. This color change must have happened after the initial cutting. Any ideas what would make this happen? Could it have anything to do with using such a thin container? I usually use a thick plastic mold. Thanks in advance for any help!

That's because the inside wasn't exposed to air. It will all change to the same color as the outside over time.

You know, the infamous Buffalo Tallow soap in Montana was exactly the same with cut bars--ugly brown on outside. Inside, it was peach (which I only found out after I cut a bit off to show someone). So why does that happen? It was pretty ugly.

It would have been brown from the FO or maybe the EO used in it. Soap with tallow as some or all of the oils in it is some shade of tan not brown. I soap with tallows of lots of diffrent animals all the time and what turns my soaps brown is vanilla and FO with vanilla in them. :)If you notice when you make vanilla soap it takes time to turn brown.
