Teach Soap

Well I thought I'd share my experience of my first soap that's gone rancid. It's 4 months old. It was coloured with chlorophyll powder and scented with peppermint eo. It just started turning brown, hasn't really got "spots" as such but it absolutely reeks.

The oils used in the base I've used for several batches before & after this one. It was stored in a corrugated cardboard box where the temperature was consistent but maybe could have had more air circulation.

I have since been reading about how unsaturated oils are more proned to this, and for this batch made up approx 40%. Any thoughts on this?

just to add....it was only superfatted at 5%.....

That's too bad. How old were your soapmaking oils? Some people have had luck adding ROE to their oils.
