Teach Soap

I've always soaped in small 16 bar batches, approximately 4 lbs. Today I am going to attempt an 8 lb batch. I brought a pail with spout and I chopped up 20 oz of rebatch. This will be 120 of oils...and I'm scared to death to mix 40 oz of lye water but I think if I work by the sink I should be okay.

Going to pull out all the safety equip and dress properly.

Do I understand correctly that you will be using 120 ozs. of oil and adding 20 ozs. of rebatched soap?
Did you run your recipe through a lye calculator?

If you will be doing CP, don't get your lye water too cold. You want saponification to take place, so it can become soap. You can do room temp lye and oils though.

do you know it was actually easier doing a large batch cp, then a small batch hp! It took along time to trace and then I THOUGHT I wouldn't have to deal with the gel or no gel issues (I guess I've been spoiled by doing hp) and every issue arose, I didn't insulate thinking my success with using sls to retard gel would work...it didn't, most likely because I also added sugar to 2 tps of sls...I got partial gel...I also had ash on one log, should have topped with saran wrap....

Otherwise the batch seems a success, can't wait to do it again

Do I understand that you added SLS to your soap batch?
Anytime you add sugar, the soap will heat up more. If you cover the top with a lid, some saran wrap or wax paper, that should discourage ash.
