I treated myself to a 20-bar slab soap mold, and used it for the 1st time yesterday. My soaping temp was about 100 F, and I put the batch into the freezer overnight. I used the lid, which I normally don't do; but don't think I did anything else differently from an identical 2# batch I had made before. However, some of the soaps have deep cracks :( . Could the lid have made a difference? Or is freezing overnight too stressful on that volume of soap? Thanks.

The lid held in the heat and your soap overheated. Don't use a lid or any covering for soaps that have milk, honey or fragrances that tend to heat up.

Thank you, Soapbuddy. Actually, when I got home from work tonight, most of the cracks were no longer visible :o . The mold has dividers, and I did remove some of them, but I think I was being impatient as the soap is very soft yet. Next time I won't add the lid if I freeze. It was such an impressive lid, I thought I just had to use it.

You were lucky that the cracks went away on their own. Sometimes they don't.

Yes, I was pretty happy when I didn't see them tonight. I just hope there aren't "fault" lines that will show up later. Time will tell. The learning curve can be steep at times, but then I feel like I've conquered Mt. Everest when I learn the solution.
