I do love me some Fragrances and Essential Oils that have low to medium low flashpoints.

If CP soap gets pretty darn hot during the saponifying process, why risk using these delectable fragrances?

i don't find that the low flashpoint means that the gel burns them off. some fragrances morph during gel, true - but for example, i use citruses of one sort or another (generally low flashpoints) and gel the soap out of it, and still get nicely scented soap.

on the topic of morphing, i know from sad experience that Pearly Pear smells far nicer done the soapbuddy way.

Hmm. I'm about to to make a fairly large batch of soap right now. I think I'll split it in half: one "regular" and another ala SBW. :p

Using one medium FP and one low FP. *crosses fingers*

Cubbles, I think if you want to get a true comparison, you might want to consider using the same fragrance oil for both and splitting it between the 2 methods (non-gel & gel). Just a thought.

I did this exact thing using same recipe and then gelled one (the infamous hand soap) and SBW'd the other two (a whipped cream soap and a "frosted" lavender bar). Gotta say I love the frosted bar. The whipped one looks like ice cream cake to me. BTW--I just refridgerated both the SBW'd ones--got a partial gel on the frosted and no gel on the whipped one (because I soaped cold).

Here are the photos.

Thanks. .. I didn't have enuf soap though I measured it a couple of times. I would do it again but make it a much bigger batch so the fingers didn't get so cut off! I just wish I could find a long, long cookie cutter type of thing so that I could have made a "log hand" and then every cut would have had the embedded hand.

Oh well.

I meant to say that the medium and low FP oils were a blend. 50 grams Lavender 15 grams Tea Tree EO. Talk about Uber Fresh!

I prepared two PVC pipes: one to be done SBW the other gelled...

Unfortch, the worst happened. The layers of film I had wrapped at the bottom of one of my pipes came undone when I lifted it. I KNEW I should've added more rubber bands. And since it was a "funnel type" pour the trace was so thin that the soap mix splashed all over my kitchen counter and floor. Not to mention my open-sandal feet!!! :(

Most of it ended up being tossed but the easy scoopable stuff from the tile counter was scraped into a pyrex dish so I could force gel. The SBW Tube made a successful voyage to my fridge.

Right now I'm taking a break from all the cleaning I had to do. Cupboards. Drawers. Floors. *Urgh* Not a fun soaping experience, but a lesson well learned.

Oh no! At least you were able to put one soap batch in the fridge. I use duct tape for the bottom of my PVC molds. You can leave this batch in the fridge safely overnight. The next day run very warm water over the outside. that should help getting the soap out. If it doesn't, you can put it in the freezer. Let it freeze, then run warm water over the outside again.
