I'm so excited about this swirly fun!!! Check out my kelp/spirulina swirl. Also pictured is a salt soap scented with ocean rain for DH. Finally a salt soap that's pretty. I cut it right after I took it out of the oven and no crumbly mess this time. I blogged about them both at soapbloggles.blogspot.com

The color in your kelp goes well with the kind of soap--- good job!

Since we are on the topic of salt bars. . why aren't mine coming out so nice and smooth like renas?

I tried the followng recipe and it came out like rice crispie treats:
12.8oz Coconut oil
2.4oz Avocado oil
0.8oz Castor oil

4.82oz Water (reflects a 20% discount)
2.43oz Sodium Hydroxide (reflects a 15% discount)

16oz Sea Salt

Hers look so much creamier and nicer. Rena, would you mind PM'ing or sharing what is working for you to get such a nice smooth bar?

For the salt bars - are you making sure they gel, and cutting them while they're still hot? and are you blending them til smooth before you pour? i'd also drop the superfat a bit - i know some people use a higher superfat for them, but the excess oil can be part of what inhibits lather. i keep the superfat for mine at about 8%.

Yes, cutting while hot. I guess I may be blending wrong because I never got totally smooth with the salt--it looked like pudding with a lot of fine grains in it. I can try to change the superfat. . .maybe that will work.

Here's my 3 lbs Salt recipe...
38 oz. coconut oil
5 oz castor
5 oz olive oil
18 oz water
7.7 oz lye (7% discount)

At trace added 1.5 lbs (one can of table salt) and 2 tbsp. bentonite
Also added 1 tbsp ocean rain fragrance

I put them in my mold and stick them in the oven for 2 hours. Set oven to 200, turn off before adding soap. Then I cut them as soon as they come out of the oven. Still a bit hot but it's the only way to cut them without having a big crumbly mess (ask me how I know!).

Thanks Rena. I tried my existing recipe today but only used 80% salt plus some kelp. But I will cut when it is hot. Thanks again!
