I just finished my first two batches of soap. My first batch traced quicker than the recipe suggested but I expected this because I took the advice of many people from this forum and used a stick blender. When I poured it was still transparent. Now it is 4 hours later and the edges are starting to turn whitish in the mold. My second batch was much larger (probably twice the size) than the first and while mixing it started to turn whitish in the pot right away. When I poured it was all white and a lot thicker than the first batch.

Could this be due to different ingredients, different temperatures or just because I mixed longer?

From my experience which isn't much more than two months the answers are...

yes, yes and yes.

so many different factors contribute to your outcome. I have had soaps trace fairly quickly and then others that took a while (my hand got tired and my stick blender got hot!)

Yes to all of the above. Next time try to pour at a thinner trace.
