From what I can gather on this forum and googling. You soap as normal for CP, preheat oven to 170 degrees, place your soap covered with a lid in the oven for 1 hr, then turn the heat off and let sit in oven overnight. Is this correct & do you still line your wooden mold with freezer paper? Would this not melt the waxy side onto the soap? How does one deal with lining the mold? Is there something else to line your mold with or is this freezer paper liner okay to use? Thanks.

Those are the general terms. If you use a fragrance that tends to overheat, you would take the soap out of the oven after the hour is up. I use trash bags as liner, so there is less cutting involved. I do use a piece of wax paper on top. that peels right off after the soap cools down. Most people do use wax paper to line, but some also use butcher paper.

I don't have to line mine because it has a foam liner that has been sprayed with silicone. Not sure how long it'll hold up doing CPOP but my liner has other "issues" so I'm not too worried about it. I eventually want to get a new mold with silicone liner. Or maybe one of the HDPE molds from SoapHutch since Soapbuddy recommends them.

I've heard people say there is a difference between wax paper, butcher paper and freezer paper and most seem to say that freezer paper is the best to line. But I've never used any of them so I'm only repeating what I've read on forums.

Thanks zeo. I'll let you know how the freezer paper holds up tomorrow when I pull my mold out of the oven

I don't have a wooden mold (or any mold really except for cheap plastic containers). What can I buy (inexpensively) to try CPOP? Can I use a silicone brownie pan? I was hoping to use individual molds that I could buy at retail somewhere so do you have any suggestions? I also don't want to fight to get this out of the mold!!!

Also, I have heard 150 degrees for 2 hours and 170 for 1 hour. Which would be the best for a first timer?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Lisa,

How low will your oven go? Mine will only go down to 170 degrees. I've heard some people say theirs won't go below 200.

I've only done CPOP once and I left the oven on for an hour then turned it off and left the soap in there all night. From 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. It gelled great but I did notice a strange "cooked" like texture on the outside of the soap so next time I'm going to experiment and cut the oven off after 30 minutes. And then the next time after that, I will experiment with with cutting the oven off at the time I put the soap in. Once I do all 3, I'll come back and report my results.

As for your mold, I would think as long as it's oven safe and can be moved with soap in it, you should be ok. But wait for a more experienced soaper to answer before you try it. I'm a newbie.

My oven says it goes down to 140 and then to 170 but its older than I am (and I am over 40) so I think I will pop over to the 99 cent store again and get an oven thermometer! Thanks for all the advice.

I found a great silicone loaf pan, cupcake mold and round cake pan at Tuesday Morning for only $9.99 so I am going to try it with the loaf pan and report back.

One other question.. . .somewhere in the back of my mind (which is quickly disappearing thanks to all the lye I have breathed this week) I saw a soap recipe calculator that actually analyzed your recipe and suggested adjustments. Does anyone know that link?

Thanks alot for the help. Will try the CPOP tomorrow night!

Hey Lisa,

I use a 9 X 9 silicone brownie pan that I bought at Tuesday Morning for $5. It holds 64 ounces of oil along with the lye/water plus fragrance oil. I don't gel all of the time, but when I do, I put the silicone pan on a cookie sheet--since it can be kind of flimsy when full--and put it in the oven preheated to 170. I turn it off after an hour and then leave it over night. My recipes are always ready to cut in the morning.

Good luck.

I put my soaps on for an hour at 170, then turn the oven off and leave them overnight. That may be too much for some fragrances - you really have to just check and take notes and see which ones heat up on their own. (florals, like soapbuddy said, are a good bet for self-heating).
