I hope I can post these pictures alright. I have no clue how to do this yet...
Anyways, I made this batch of cocoa butter soap and I'm wondering if the white colored tops are actually soda ash. I thought the batch came out looking kinda of neat but I wil feel a bit silly if it is soda ash. I can sort of scrape off some of the whitish areas with my fingernail. It doesnt seem to have much texture or anything though. BTW the dark bits are just ground nutmeg. What do you all think? Is this soda ash? I would hate to have to cut the tops off b/c I like how it looks. Thank you all so much

Did you do a zap test? Looks like in some of the soap there are tiny white spots, might be the picture, don't know. Did you use Titanium Dioxide? That might be the little white spots that I'm seeing. Pretty soap.

There's no need to cut off soda ash. Some people trim it away because they don't like the appearance, but it isn't always necessary. Just embrace it! :D

And yes, it looks very nice - I'd leave it as is. :)

Thank you so much for the input spotted cat and magichands :D ...

I think the white specks are just dust or something on my camera lens. I didn't use any titanium dioxide and the ph test and zap test came out fine. I can see how the white specks look strange though.

Magic hands...thank you so much...that puts me at ease a bit hearing you say that. I'm happy with this batch and I just wanted to make sure it was okay. I thought the white tops looked nice but I dont want to seem like a crazy person for giving away "bad" soaps..lol. Thank you so much :D

Yup...looks like you did it on purpose and for this particular soap, I'd embrace it!

It's just ash. You will be fine. :)

I agree that it looks great, like you did it on purpose. It even matches the color scheme of the soap. :D

Some people have luck not getting soda ash by covering the soap while it is curing. Saran wrap, a garbage bag, wax paper or something along those lines may help! Also spritzing the top of the soap with alcohol can help too! :D

oh wow :D ...thank you everyone...I was all worried about it at first but now it will be my happy little accident. It's funny, I tried to cover the soap with saran, but the soap filled my mold so full that I had to make a wierd contraption to hold the saran wrap up over the soap...(needless to say that didnt do much.) LOL But oh well...I'm happy that its okay :D Thank you all

 It looks like you did it on purpose as part of your "design"- non soapers won't know unless you tell...
