I prefer to make powdered laundry soap (shredded soap, washing soda, and borax) and have always used store bought soap. I want to make my own lard soap to use in place of the store soap. I have two questions about fragrance. Would the powdered soap scent be stronger if you....?

A) make the powder with scented lard soap

B) make the powder with unscented lard soap and add a few drops of fragrance oil

C) doesn't matter either way

If you were to make liquid laundry soap, would your answer be the same?

Thanks,
Cindy

I've always used my mistakes to make part of the laundry soap, so the soap is scented when it goes in - although I've never found that scent sticks much. I do use a vinegar rinse to cut down on the soap scum, which probably has something to do with that.

If I want to add a bit of fragrance, I put a couple of drops on a damp cloth and toss it in the dryer with the clothing. (I generally don't bother, though, my house is full of fragrance and I really don't need much more.)

I do have one suggestion - maybe make an all-coconut soap instead of the lard soap. Coconut is a better cleanser. Good luck!

Thanks magic_hands. I did try a scented lemon soap and I could smell the scent on the wet clothes but not when they were dry. I'll keep trying. Thanks also for the coconut oil tip.
