Teach Soap

I made a batch with Raspberry Lemonade FO. My idea was to color the base yellow and swirl a dark pink through it. I took out about 2 tablespoons of oil to mix up the pink. Then I mixed the lye with the remaining oil. I mixed to a very light trace and then took out about 1 cup of mixture to add to pink. Then I added the yellow to the rest. I got to a medium/heavier trace. I then took the pink mixture and poured it into the pot with the yellow (still at just a light trace). I kinda swirled it around just a tiny bit. Then I poured into mold. I put in fridge overnight. When I cut the soap, the pinkish swirls were very soft and kindof crumbly. Almost like a powder in some areas. Any suggestions as to what went wrong with this?

I notice the crumbly chalky soap when the temperature drops too fast. Maybe next time allow the soap to go through gel phase rather than putting it straight into the fridge and you might have better luck.

Next time add the color to a minimum amount of glycerin instead of oil.

If you have a recipe that didn't end up lye heavy, I would say those bars will be ok to use.

If you are doing swirling, here is what I would do. At a very light trace, I would take out the raw soap out of the pot that you need for swirling. Add it to a cup which has the color in it. Bring the soap in the pot to trace. Pour it into your mold. Mix the colored soap in the cup, then pour over the soap that's already in the mold.

Take a chopstick or a skewer and swirl.
