Teach Soap

I have heard about cocoa butter substitute CBS recently. Does anyone know if it can be used instead of cocoa butter?

I sub mango or shea butter, but these are not as hard as cocoa butter.

I've only seen this as a commercial food ingredient/additive - I'd be concerned that it would have a different SAP value and would behave differently in soap.

Are you seeing it offered by soap suppliers?

No I haven't seen it offered by soap suppliers but since it's hard to find cocoa butter
where I am (I am in Iran) and I had seen it offered by chocolate factory's suppliers
I though may be I could replace it but I think you're right it might be ok to use it
in making soaps but it definitely has different values which can't be run in soap calc.

Is it easier for you to get shea butter or mango butter, like soapbuddy mentioned? Those are both lovely in soap.

Not really. There are factories that make them but they are only available for wholesale to other factories not for retail.
I'm trying to get cocoa butter from one of them. Handmade soaps are not very common in Iran so we don't have soap
suppliers and I have to buy each supply from different place. I mean the factories do have
natural and organic soaps like olive oil, tea tree, chamomile, etc. but they are still commercial soaps.

What are you looking for the cocoa butter to do? i would embrace what is "local". I did a quick search for agriculture in Iran and found that Iran is the largest producer of pistachio oil; or what about hazelnut or almond oils? I realize that they will not bring the same qualities to the soap, but they are very nice additives.

I just read about this today, Illipe Butter from Borneo can be an alternative to Cocoa Butter, it did not say anything about the properties (fatty acids) maybe you could google it to figure out on lye calculator. Good Luck

Are animal fats an option? or were you looking for something vegetable based?

I don't use any animal fat in my soaps only vegetable oils.
