According to soapcalc rice bran oil will contribute to bar hardness, and has good conditioning properties. I used it quite a bit for awhile because I had a local supplier who sold it to me at I think $1.75 a pound. But after reading up on it I am not sure it has a very long shelf life so I replaced it with Crisco. I buy a 6lb can of it at Sams club.

I've used it as a part of olive oil replacement, but I didn't like the feel of the bars.

A lot of soapers were using it as an inexpensive sub for olive oil - it has a similar fatty acid profile. However, the price has gone up so it isn't as much of a cost savings any more. And I wasn't terribly fond of the feel, either.

Thank you all so much. If only I could down load half of your brains I would be doing well. Good thing for this site.
