I was reading the ingredients for a Lush banana soap, and they listed as bananas as one of their ingredients. Is it possible to add fresh fruit, like bananas to CP soap? I also noticed that they didn't include a germacide of any kind.

::confused::

Their stuff goes moldy so fast it would make your head spin. I'm very surprised that they haven't got a major lawsuit on their hands yet.

You can use pureed banana in your soap, but it has to saponify. If you leave it in chunks, it will go moldy over time.

Does it? I've purchased their products before, and I have to say they go down the drain so fast. I figured the puree would saponify. Thanks so much!

when I use fruit in soap, I always run it through the blender with a portion of the oils for the batch.........to make sure it's completely purreed. I also, before adding it to the oil to be purreed, weigh it and use the fruit weight as a portion of the water weight....wow, does that make sense? I think I just confused myself.......lol

I've used banana, cucumber, tomato........and I think that's about it for the foody things. In a swap a while back, someone sent in soap that had PEAR in it.

Another hint? use the Stage 1 baby food......cant get more purreed than that.......lol

Soapbuddy and naturescauldron are spot on - you have to completely puree the fruit and/or veggies. Chunks of produce are a mold-fest just waiting to happen.

My favorite veggie to add to soap is carrots, but cucumber runs a close second. Oh, and pumpkin. And avocado. To be honest, I think I've soaped the entire produce aisle at one point or another.

Just for fun, here's my carrot soap -

I have made soap using mango nectar and have never had any trouble with it molding or going bad.

does the puree thing apply to oatmeal too?

I added oatmeal to my third batch (it's still curing) and realized when I went to add it I hadn't blended it up quite as much as I thought. If it was still a little flakey do you think I'll have problems?

Does cucumber soap stay a nice color and do you use the peel and all or do you take the seeds out???

oh! i've done pumpkin! forgot all about that one....... I used Pumpkin Patch FO too......lol a no brainer eh??

avocado......omg. I bet that would be divine. I sure use the avocado oil enough, why havent I thought about using the actual pulp? I love eating it, that's for sure.....lol

the cucumber soaps I've made stay nice and light. they dont discolor unless the FO itself causes discoloration. And um.....I just cube the whole cucumber, skin and seeds and all, and liquify it in the blender. Makes a nice green slush for your soap.

the oatmeal is fine in soap. Why do you think that is? Maybe is it because it's dry and doesnt have any moisture in it? I dont know.......that's the only thing I can think of. Never really thought about it before...... Oh Soapbuddy......why doesnt oatmeal go icky in soap?? I know that I've nevver had an oatmeal batch go bad, and it's certainly got chunkies of oatmeal in it because I use mostly the baby cereal oatmeal in the soap, but them I toss in a handful of regular rolled oats for appearance.

My soaps made with cucumber or mango nectar both faded over time. I used the peel and all for cucumber. I just chunked it up and then pureed it in the blender.

Cucumber won't stay green. If you want to use it whole, seed it first, cut it into chunks then use a blender to liquify it as much as possible.

I am a little confused on this. Do you calculate the puree as part of your liquid? Or do you add it at trace? And why would you add it?
