Hi all, I'm sure I have read this question asked and answered here, but can't find it and forgot what the solution was. Anyway, I made a batch of soap today using frozen half & half. The Lye mixture turned a little like pudding and didn't reach 100 degrees. My oils were at 110 degrees, so I mixed them together and the soap was slightly grainy. Is this batch of soap "toast"?

It could be the proteins in the milk that did not saponify, or it could be undissolved lye. Did you check for zap?

Since you made it today, wait til tomorrow, then check for zap. You don't need to cut it to check.

Thank you soap buddy. I will let you know on Sunday if it gelled & I will take a zap test. Now, to take this zap test I wet my finger, place it on the soap then place my finger on my tongue? Not sure?

sliced soap today & it passed the zap test! Taste like soap, yeah!!!! and it doesn't look grainy now.
