And lets not forget the tongue test!

This basically tells you if the lye is fully saponified (and therefore fully cured) yet or not. You don't have to eat the soap - you just touch the tip of your tongue to the soap and if you feel a slight zap then you still have active lye and you need to wait a little longer.

And if this grosses you out, just be thankful you're not Anne-Marie at last year's Dairy Goats Association. She had to tongue test 80 bars of handmade soap!
