I've seen a few of you mention notes in posts and I have my very first lye calculation printout that had space for notes at the bottom. Do you all hang on to all of these sheets and/or keep track of every recipe you make? How do you organize them?

I put them in clear protector sheets into a large 3 ring binder.
I write all kinds of info in the notes section; temps, fragrances, colors, how well behaved the fragrance is, if it's a blend, if the soap overheats, if I used milk with a higher fat count (fresh) etc...

I did not keep any info on the few CP batches that I have made and I regret it. I really wish I had the recipe back. I would definitely keep the recipes and make any notes you feel will help you make successful repeat batches.

ooh, good tip Linda! That way you know for sure when you got them.

K, looks like I need to start putting a binder together.

I keep a spiral notebook and write out everything I "plan" to do on a batch before starting... including all the soapcalc values, measurements, percentages (in case I want to make a bigger batch of the same later).

I then sit down as soon as the soap is in the molds and write anything I think is important, like if I did anything different than planned, how quickly I got to trace, anything unplanned happened etc. I then leave at least one blank page so I can make more notes as the soap is cut and cured and sometimes even leave room for comments from those who use it.

I'm thinking of creating a database and web form since that's what I do in real life. I should probably just spring for that great soapmaker software everyone talks about but I keep spending too much on FO's.
