Teach Soap

i have always used either plastic or silicone soap molds. i would like to use a cool bamboo box that i have, but i do not know what people use to line the box with. i fear that if i use saran wrap or wax paper that the soap will have crease marks in it. any ideas

A couple ideas we had here were to;

1. Get a larger silicone pan mold and cut a piece of it out and make a liner with that for the bottom of your mold. So, this would sit on top of your plastic but directly under your poured soap.

2. Home improvement stores should sell sheets of hard, thick plastic that you could cut down and use the same as the silicone idea. However I do not believe that most large chain stores will do a custom cut for you, you would have to cut it down yourself. You also would need to know that the plastic you are buying will not melt with the heat of the soap.

I use wax paper and I do end up with crease marks and rounded corners (sometimes the paper even gets stuck in the soap). But it's nothing a little trimming can't fix and it's dirt cheap to boot.

I use freezer paper (the plastic lined stuff). You get better at folding it so it isn't creased - like everything else, a little practice helps.

I use both a wood mold and a PVC. Wood mold can go in the oven for my CP soaps, but PVC cannot due to toxic fumes that develop from the heat in the oven.

Another vote here for freezer paper. If you get really good at folding it, it's a great way to have a almost wrinkle-free soap for a very affordable price.

I am curious about when you talk about folding your freezer paper. I have not yet poured my first batch but intend to this weekend and am planning on freezer paper. Are you talking about folding it at the corners? Getting it in and flat and getting the corners and sides folded up? ANy advice for a newbie?
