Teach Soap

After years of soaping I have become so disappointed I am ready to give up. I have always combined oil and lye at about 110 degrees. I gel. Lately I set my silicone mold on a board and cover it with an old wooden drawer then cover it with towel. I have been doing this because it seems like I was getting too many partial gel batches.
My recipe is
Almond oil 2.51%
Avacado Oil 7.54%
Castor oil 2.51%
Cocoa butter 6.28%
Coconut oil 20.85%
Olive oil 40.2%
Palm oil 11.06%
shea butter 9.05%
Super fat at 5%
With the exception of the castor which I have had for some time the oils and butters are fresh. Oh one thing I just thought of. I have been using coconut oil from the grocery store not bought from Brambleberry (this seems to be the most major deviation from past soaping)
I have used this recipe for years and never had a problem. Now it seems like all my soap quickly yellows. When I say quickly I mean six weeks. Since I like to really let my soap age before I give it this is causing a problem. I mean yellowing not DOS.
Here is how I see it.
1. Give up
2. Make everything with a vanilla fragrance so it just turns brown.
3. Don't gel but put straight in the frig
4.Should I be using a preservative?

I've had that happen a couple of times, but I never figured out why. It's also not every bar in the batch. I'm thinking it may be from humidity, but who knows? I doubt it's from the coconut oil - I've used the grocery store stuff many times with no issues.

You can try not gelling. I gel everything and it still happened. You don't need a preservative in soap. The pH is high enough and most preservatives wouldn't work any way.

Are you storing/curing your soaps differently? Are they in direct sunlight or anything like that?

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Initially, I dry them out in the open but for most of the drying I have them in a dark closet.

Fragrance with 2% of more vanilla content can discolor. Some fragrances without vanilla can turn yellow.

Oh boy. I always avoid any vanilla if I don't want the discolor. I guess I will stick with some of my old reliables.........Champagne and Energy.
