Teach Soap

ok, So I am all geared up to make HP soap. I think I want to master this before and if I ever get into CP. Seems easier, as from what I read, CP a lot of things can happen during process, that seem to be solves when you use HP. Now I know it will be a lot glopier (is that a word) lol

I would love for anyone that has pictures of HP to post them? Please .... I would love to see the end result.

Also if I use MP to make hearts or something else to put it on top of the HP after I put it in the mold, will that be ok? How about dried herbs, or coconut flakes? (only on top after is made and poured when is drying, not during cooking).

I have seen videos of people putting color when they achieve trace, and many doing it at the end of the process. Which is best?

And lastly the recipe I am making is for 2 or 3 pounds. If anyone has an easy 1 pound recipe please share!

Any recipe can be made for smaller batches. For a 1 lb. soap, I would convert the ingredients into grams for better accuracy.
MP hearts on top of a HP soap will be fine. Just make sure that you don't add them while the HP is still hot as they could melt.
I don't used dried herbs and definitely not coconut flakes. They don't dissolve going down the drain and can clog it up.
Add some sodium lactate after the cook to make the soap easier to glop into your mold. Sodium lactate will make the HP soap a little more fluid.

Thank you! Great tips! How about the color? During trace of after? I am planning on using a liquid brown oxide I have.

Hello,

I have been making hot process batches. But this one what i made today seemed to be fine. But kind of burns my skin when used..Should i leave it for some more time before using... If its slightly lye heavy, will it become gentle over few weeks..

Or can i chop them and re-cook it for few more minutes. Will that solve. The problem is i have already given away them to my friends and family... Please help...

How to lye test apart from PH strips as the accuracy with these are not always correct.

I'm an almost exclusively HP soaper! I get a little jealous when I see all the wonderful pretty things CP soapers make, but I'm a rough and ready kind of gal, and I love how rustic my bars look. Here are a few photos of mine that I have on hand.
