Teach Soap

Hello. I have only made 6 batches of CP soap and the amount of FOs per batch has already widely varied in my batches. All of the batches were 2lb batches and the most FO that I have used has been 1oz(for the whole batch;not per lb). On the first batch that I made, I used .5oz total of an ocean rain FO and it smells very overpowering and awful. It's not the FO itself just the strength of it. So on my 2nd batch I used .4oz of FO and it smelled nice. On my third batch I used .4oz again and I cant hardly smell it. Then on the last batch I made, I was using an FO from a different supplier. They said to use .8oz per lb of oils, but I only had an ounce total, so that is what I used. It was a 2lb batch of soap and I used 1oz of key lime pie FO. It smells perfect to me. Not overpowering and not too weak.
So....is this normal? I have yet to use the total amount recommended by the FO manufacturer. Also, I am buying my FOs from widely known and popular suppliers, so they are not cheapies or anything. I keep hearing people say that they always use 1oz per lb of oils, yet I have had terribly overpowering results with much smaller amounts. What is going on?

That is normal. Some are just stronger than others. I generally weigh out my fo's and if it is strong then I won't use the entire amount. If it is not strong enough, I will add more. Just depends. I find that with citrus scents, I add more. You just have to find what works and what you like.

think of it this way , when you get really strong FOs like BB Almond Biscotti, Lavander, Juniper Sage or Magnolia you can use alot less in your soap and that brings your cost down and your profit up. It's a good thing
