Hi there everyone! Could some of you please help me with a recipe? I sort of made it up as I went along- I am trying to get a very conditioning, mild bar for a friend with severe eczema. It is for a two pound batch and consists of 10 ounces of coconut oil, 8 ounces of palm, 4 ounces of shea, 4 ounces of apricot kernal oil, 4 ounces of avocado oil, and 2 ounces of rice bran oil. It has 4.57 ounces of lye and 12.16 ounces of water. I also add a tablespoon of castor oil and about a teaspoon of sugar( I've heard this helps with lather).

You need to include the castor in your total amount of oils.
Here is your recipe in percentages. I calculated your castor as 0.1 oz.

Apricot Kernel Oil 4ozs. 12.46%
Avocado Oil 4ozs. 12.46%
Castor Oil 0.1ozs. 0.31%
Coconut Oil 10ozs. 31.15%
Palm Oil 8ozs. 24.92%
Rice Bran Oil 2ozs. 6.23%
Shea Butter 4ozs. 12.46%
Total Weight 32.1 ozs.

For that size batch you would need 8 to 12 fluid ounces of liquid and 4.6 ozs. of lye for a 5% superfat.

I'm sorry-for some reason I didn't ask my question with my recipe. Do you think this is a decent recipe for very dry skin? I'm still learning about oil properties so I really appreciate your knowledge.

Depending which type of shea butter you use, this recipe might be a bit soft for a while.
It should work ok for dry skin.

Can someone help me reformulate this recipe using palm kernal instead of palm? I tried just subbing one for the other but soapcalc had the cleansing property rediculously high that way. Then I tried halving it from 8 ounces palm to 4 ounces pk but it still didn't seem that great. Maybe cut back on co also? I just don't want it to be too drying. Thanks!

Palm Kernel has similar properties like coconut. You could sub half of your coconut with palm kernel. Don't forget to recalculate your recipe.

So add 8 oz pk plus 5 more for half the coconut or just 5 oz for half the coconut? Thanks
