Because I get uneven bar weights I was advised to not wait 24 hours to cut my logs. More like 8 to 12 hours. How long do most you wait for gel before you cut? Maybe my logs are too firm when I cut? My oils are harder ones like coconut, shea etc.. I'm going to give Bud's cutter another try.

Hmmm, I can't even cut mine at 24 hours, they are way too soft. I use coconut and Palm as my largest percentage of oils plus adding sodium lactate to harden. I am going to follow this post in hopes of a solution. I also add a pinch of silk and tablespoon of kaylin clay to my 2 pound batch.

Mine is fairly firm. I use olive and coconut as the largest % but I also use palm, shea and castor. After 24 hours they are not soft, soft enough to cut of course but not gooey soft. I think I could reduce gel time quite easily. My main concern is trying to brainstorm why my bar weight comes in at a half an ounce difference in the same cut.

Depending on your recipe and if you gel, I find if I CPOP, I can get the soap out easily as soon as the soap cools off.
Doing a water discount might also help you.
