Hi:
This is my first post to this list, so let me thank you all in advance for sharing your advice and ideas here! I've "lurked" for a little while, often forgetting my own questions as I read through and learn from everyone else!

I've always used loaf molds for my soaps (I'm very proud of the ones I made from recycled wood) but wanted to make some salt bars, which I understand are very hard to cut. I also wanted a different "look" for the bars. SO I started shopping.

There are so many choices, but, it seems that all the bar molds are too small. If a mold says it holds a 4 oz bar, doesn't that mean it will weigh even less after curing? Also, as a new soaper, I am getting a headache figuring out how large my batch should be to fill the bar molds vs my tried and true loaf molds.

I also saw some really nice individual molds, but just can't seem to wrap my mind around how to use them - do you buy 12 of them at a time? Do you keep some on hand for excess soap? I am trying to set myself up efficiently, but...

Thanks again for your thoughts!

Salt bars get very hard very quick. I use this silicone mold for my salt bars. They come out a nice hefty size.

Thanks Irina. After posting my question, I decided I better just go ahead and try it! Glad to hear the bars are "hefty" !
