Here's the question - Is it possible to make large batches of uniformly colored goat milk soaps with no volcanic gap running through the top???

I made 40 goat milk soaps in a square mold and the center 'cooked' to a darker brown. The outer edges were a lighter color presumably because of less heat. I know there are soap companies making large batches but do they all cook like this? How do you make say 200 bars (or more) and keep it uniform? I also made 80 beer soaps once and the soap, while curing, blew it's top in the mold so all the soaps on top were unusable because of the fissure (again from the heat I guess).

Thank you so much!

You can elevate the mold and run a fan on it, or put it in the fridge or the freezer. Be aware that if the soap didn't gel, it can start out soft.

Thank you and is this good for 200 bars? I'm not sure I have a freezer large enough!

Also, shallow slab molds don't generate as much heat as thick logs of soap.

Thank you for your responses! What prompted my question was this video on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akvMcBYGWDw

How do people make massive batches of goat milk soap and have it not cook? I can't make more than 40 bars without them turning brown, which looks nice, but not what I want.

I tried a batch of 80 soaps in a long tower and it literally blew like a volcano! There was a goodly sized fissure cutting right across the top inch of my soaps. Yikes!

Thanks again!

Wow that soapmaking video was fantastic! I only make 12 dozen at one time.....in lined wooden loaf moulds, so really don't know much about the big moulds the lady was using.

I prefer not to use wooden molds for milk soaps as the wood traps in heat. I find if I use my 10 lb. plastic tray molds, I can prevent gel. They fit in my soap fridge or the freezer.

Emmabilli,

12 dozen is a lot of goat milk soap! Do you not have any discoloration then?

Thanks!
