Hello guys. am here again... you know guys, am quite happy now because i made 2 batches already with good results. my first batch was honey and oatmeal soap and the second one is tea soap with honey. And happy to share that all of these batches were successfully done specially in terms of its texture. It is already fine and smooth. My only problem was the color.. I want to produce a pure white soap, as in white.. with my 2 batches made, the color is not that white, its opaque. My first batch has a touch of green, maybe because of olive pomace.. while the second batch is something brown. actually with that color, I put nothing at all. I did not put any colorant. I think that is its natural color brought by the oils used. I dont know if I am right.

What i want really is to produce a white soap for hotels and inns here. But i dont know how to do it. I dont know how to color my batch with white color..

How to do it guys, can share me your ways? thank you very much

The lighter your oils & butters, the lighter the final soap will be. You can try using titanium dioxide, which is available at BrambleBerry's web site. http://www.brambleberry.com/Titanium-Di ... P4040.aspx

I've tried the titanium dioxide and usually got a lighter shade of brown. I only got a nice white soap when I made bastille soap with very light olive oil and Crisco. I added some titanium dioxide and got a nice white soap. That's the only time it's worked for me, but I'm a newbie.

What other ingredients or oils do you use? That might help to troubleshoot.

I cannot get white bars with most of my EO's and Fragrance oils, so I do not try anymore. I use a lot of sandalwood, vanilla's spice, pumpkin, etc., also a lot of powders. That may be the issue too.

I have made one batch of extremely white soap. Castille (100% olive oil) unscented. That's the reason I only made one batch. Everybody wants scented soaps and that adds color.

If you're up for suggestions on getting a white bar with no colorants, here's what I would do:
Up the coconut, and lower the shortning (I wouldn't use more than 35-40% at the very most, of the shortning anyway) and leave out the tea. You should get a fairly white bar with out the TD. I'm one of those people who have had the hit or miss with the TD is soaps. I only use it to dumb down bright colors into softer hues now.

My organic palm is pretty yellow, so I use light olive oil, coconut oil, and palm kernnel oil to whiten the bars ;)

Tea will discolor your soap. I would leave it out.

You can get a lighter colored soap if you don't gel. I prefer not to gel, so my soaps go in the fridge or the freezer; up to overnight. Be aware that condensation can form on top of the soap. That's harmless.

You need to use light colored oils - lard, coconut, palm, tallow all make white bars. Avoid dark green olive oil and other dark oils. Some fragrance and essential oils will also change the color of the soap.
