Teach Soap

I'm very new to soap making, and have made one simple batch, and want to start adding scents and additives. One thing I'd like to do is make a warm, "spicy" soap, but I've read that spices only really add colour to soap, not scents. Can more experienced soapmakers suggest things I can try?
I'm trying to make something to symbolize warmth and strength. I've been reading about different essential oils, and I was thinking maybe clove and cinnamon for scents, with maybe some paprika for color?

Clove and Cinnamon essential oils can only be used in small amounts due to possible irritation issues. They also speed up trace or can make your soap seize.
If you decide to use the paprika, infuse it into one of your soapmaking oils then strain it out. Otherwise paprika can be scratchy.

Thank you very much! When you say to use them only in small amounts, do you mean halving or quartering the usual amounts for essential oils, or even less, like a couple of drops? And if there's that little, will they still have enough scent?

Also, on the subject of "scratchiness", I was thinking of a nighttime themed soap for another friend. I'd love to put something sparkly in there to represent stars, but I don't know of any glitters that would be fine or soft enough not to scratch! Do you have any suggestions?
