Teach Soap

I recently made the salt bars from Brambleberry - pink himalayan salt with Eucalyptus and Lemongrass EO's. They turned out amazing. I have 2 questions.

1. I don't get much lather from mine, is that normal for salt bars? They make my skin so smooth though, and I love the feel but I am trying to find out if I messed something up.

2. What are some other types of salt that people use in these bars?

I think salt bars get better after a long cure. Mine are much nicer at 3-4 months than after 4 weeks. I use plain table salt in mine.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I use non-iodized table salt. Salt bars won't give you many bubbles. They are more creamy and lotiony.

I've seen people use Dead Sea salt a lot as well. I too recently used pink Himalayan sea salt in a soap adventure. Unfortunately, I read so much about salt bars with pink Himalayan salt and how sometimes they can be too rough of a salt grain and spooked myself that I couldn't use it for a salt bar. I'm also a dweeb when it comes to blood and I saw someone mention that they drew blood using it in salt bars and I was immediately not into it. Glad it worked for you, maybe I'll have to look into it. It could be the quality of my salt, maybe brambleberry has a better grade that isn't so course.I just ended up grinding the heck out of what I had and did a soleseife type bar. Lathers pretty spectacularly, better than I thought, but it could be because majority of the salt dissolved in the brine. I did hear salt bars get better with age.

I just saw a video recently that advised not to use Dead Sea salt and one other but I can't remember what the other one is.

I've been experimenting using filtered seawater as my lyewater, since it gives me a great morning walk with the dog... good results so far with 3 different recipes...
I'm thinking of evaporating our own salt here at home on the stove... (at least, for our food consumption). It's illegal to make salt here without fluoride. But at least the water's good...

I've heard of weeping bars from the Dead Sea salts... Wondering about homemade salt from the live sea. It'll make a neat experiment for this summer when we're in the woods again...

The video I saw said sea salt is actually great, just not saly from the Dead Sea. I still can't remember what the other one is. But yes it causes weeping.
