I live in a small (900 sq ft, no basement, no garage) house. I will have to put up a high shelf near somewhere for soap to cure.

We (5 people) share a single small bathroom. Does soap cure in a bathroom that is constantly being used or is it too humid? We keep the fan running 24/7 for the litter box that lives in the bathroom, which is another consideration. While the kids keep it clean pretty well, it occasionally smells. Does soap absorb other odors while curing?

The other option is the kitchen. It faces south and west, and is quite warm (80+ degrees) during summer. I expect this is the best choice.

I could also put a shelf on our shaded driveway. It regularly hits 110 degrees during the summer. I imagine soap could dry out very quickly out there:lol: but it would still need time for the ph to mellow.

Any other ideas from those of you in similar small house situations?

I would not put soap in a humid bathroom to cure. It could develop DOS.
If the kitchen is dry, that might work.
I live in the desert with triple digit heat. The soap gets soft in the heat in the garage or a driveway . That's a no go.

Maybe add a shelf in closet? Or a wire stacking rack in one of the room?

Yeah, the driveway is too warm for long term. I pour soap at lower temps than my driveway reaches during summer. I can't believe it's currently 97F out there already.

Thanks for the suggestions! It helps get the wheels turning. I have to go vertical to find space, with high narrow shelves near the ceiling. It's a great excuse to get rid of the stupid, useless soffits in the kitchen, though I don't think the guys will agree that soap shelving is worth a remodeling job.

I think curing in cardboard boxes would be ok, maybe if you cut a few holes in them for more air flow. Then you could just stack the boxes anywhere.

ETA: LOVE the saying about electrons in your signature line.

The quote is from Neil deGrasse Tyson.

If i was you i would prepare my lye & oils in the morning and mix them at night when it is alot cooler, then put the mold underneath a fan w/ full A/C. Or just wait until wintertime might be more convenient for you if temp is a problem then winter is much easier to control sap temp.

Thanks for the suggestion. It probably will take longer during the summer for the oil and lye to cool off to mixable temps. I'll have to plan for that time during the summer. Or start with cold/ice water.
