hi everyone,

well I mixed up some lye last night and I'm sure some of it dissolved but there is still a 1/4' inch+ lye pie in the bottom of my SS pot.

I'm trying to decide if I should risk the ingredients,or throw it out and stir up some more lye. What do you guys think? When I heat it back up to 110 degrees before mixing w/ fats will the lye dissolve a little more? Should I give it a try salvaging the lye or just start over?

Does anybody know what causes a lye pie like that? The lye is fresh just arrived in the mail. I mixed it last nite once w/ a whisk then left it to cool off overnight, uncovered. I've done this loads of times and never gotten a lye pie like this before...

Anyone's thoughts will be appreciated so thanks in advance for your comments.

Start new. If it hasn't dissolved by now, it won't. You need to stir the lye water when you add the lye til the water is clear.

U were right. Usually I flee the kitchen after I mix the lye when it is outputting so much fumes.

Thank you, SB.

Mix your lye under the turned on electric fan hood in the kitchen or mix it outside.
