I have run out of Palm oil  and am waiting for my order to arrive. I do have palm flakes. I was told these can be used in a pinch. Is it a ounce for ounce replacement or is it different? I'm fairly new and always learning something new. Can someone please help me?
A BIG thanks! MAEDAE

Palm kernel flakes can seriously accelerate trace. I love the qualities it lends to the soap, mostly hardness but also some extra bubbles, but keep it around 10% or less. If you're using a fragrance that you know accelerates, you'll be asking for a seized batch if you use a lot of PKO. In that case, increase your olive to 50% or more and include some tallow or lard. Tallow is a great substitute for palm if you have it.

Each one has a different SAP value. Run it through soap calc and see where the range is.

I use palm kernel flakes in most of my soaps at around 6%-7%. I also use lard in my soaps. I have not had any problem with acc .trace. I do not use palm oil and have nice hard bars. If you have some flakes on hand give it a try. You might really like it. But don't forget the lye calc.

This post helps me a lot in answering some questions in a recipe I am trying to formulate. Without going into the long muddy details, the recipe uses indigo powder. I saw on Brambleberry that indigo powder shouldn't be used with palm oil. Can it be used with palm flakes? The rest of the details regarding this portion of that project were answered here. I appreciate you ladies!
