Okay I know this can depend on the person, but what does everyone think is a good amount of goats milk to put in soap? I have tired doing half and half milk and water, and all goats milk, the all goats milk I don't think was a good example, I was messing with oils, and trying to use them all up at the same rate and tried a new oil at the same time as well and the batch was fine on the outside edge but the rest is kinda white and crumbly ( what happened there) .
And I was wondering what other people superfat at with goats milk soap, one website recommended 3% maybe 4%, why is that and can you do it higher? if its a higher number, doesn't that mean its less likely to be to lyeish?

I have only been making goats milk soap since October so I am not the most experienced person but all the recipes I have used and have turned out well call for 12 oz milk to 3oz lye to 21-ish oz fats. Of course depending on the fats can change the lye somewhat which is where the lye calculator come in handy. As for superfatting I don't have a perfect handle on it but it seems to me mostly what I have read is an oz of most fats per # of fats you put in. I don't know what percent that superfats though.

I use minimum amount of water to dissolve the lye. After it has cooled off, I add the milk. I don't gel my milk soaps, so they stay a light color.

I make my milk soaps at 100% milk. I have found it easier (at least for me) to either use condensed or powdered milk. This allows me to mix my lye with the required water and not have to worry about scorching the milk. Then I add the canned or powdered milk at very light trace. I tried many different ways and this just worked out the best! HTH

What do you guys do for superfatting, 3%, 4% for the goats milk soap?

If you use full fat milk, you can do 4%; otherwise I'd go to 5%.

I'm pretty new at this, but have used 100% goats milk in a semi-frozen (slushy) state and mixed the lye with that. It seems to me that there are several different ways to use goat's milk, just find the one that works best for you. Good luck!

freeze some goat's milk in a ice cube tray and use half frozen and half liquid goat's milk. add the lye slowly to the mix over a few minutes. it'll turn a nice yellowish color. you can do 4 to 5% superfat and should be ok without going overboard.
