Hi Folks -

I hope everyone is well.

I have a question about decorating the tops of soaps with dried botanicals. What are the dos and don'ts of using them as it relates to gel phase? Will the heat of gel phase be detrimental to the appearance of the botanicals?

Any other tips?

Thanks!

BubbleBath

That depends. Most botanicals oxidize and turn brown whether the soap goes through gel or not. the exception is calendula. That one stays yellow.

All my botanicals so far have gone brown when going through the gel stage, even when not there can be some browning. I have to keep a very close eye on lavender buds on top of soap - if it warms up even a little they will start turning brown. And right, calendulas stay the same :P

I cannot count how many times I see people at markets with lavender buds on their soap.

Nice smelling soap with little mouse turds all over it
