I am hoping for help troubleshooting a recent batch gone wrong. I cannot come up with anything. I used BB quick swirl mix, added shea butter and ran through lye calculator. I used a BB white magnolia f.o. My batch is honestly fuzzy feeling, like suede. Did I add too much shea butter? The bars are somewhat crumbly but soft at the same time, much like refrigerator cookie dough. I can break them in half. It appears at first like soda ash; but it is not just on the surface. It's all over sides that were not exposed to air. If anyone can help, let me know if it is rebatchable. It's smells amazing. I re formulated and made a second attempt cutting Shea in half and adding extra ounce of swirl quick mix. Second formulation turned out great; but still confused about first attempt and wondering if anyone has experienced fuzzy, suede like soap. I don't have pH strips on hand. I have made every mistake imaginable and been able to troubleshoot except this time. I would love to rebatch if I can. Thank you!!

I would run the quick mix with the added butter through a lye calc. How much did you superfat? Did you use a stick blender? At what temps did you combine the oils and lye? Did the soap gel? Did you stick blend everything well? What type of a mold did you use?

There is no need for pH test strips. They are not accurate. They only give you a range.

I am not sure I stick blended well. Yes, there is gel under the fuzzy suede. Cool temps 94°. I superfatted at 5%. I used a silicone mold. I think my concern for the fragrance accelerating trace, I was afraid to stick blend fragrance oil.

Thank you. You really helped me. I'm very confident now I didn't use stick blender with FO it wasn't mixed enough. I used stick blender for lye and oils; but stirred in FO with spatula.

I add my fragrance to the cooled off oils before I add the lye.
