Teach Soap

I have had several customers ask me to teach a soapmaking class. I have a few ideas but would love to hear from others who have successfully taught classes and how you plan and organize the classes. Most importantly, how do you set up the class so that the students can take home soap that they make. Pricing? What materials are included?

I am fairly new and still have had a TON of ppl ask me to teach. The legality behind it, using lye and so on is what stops me. Having the class be in a 2 day session, as the 2nd day they can cut and take home.

I've taught a few people how to make soap now, but never an actual class. Though it has been proposed by a large group of friends who want to pay me to teach them all, still not sure if I want to or not though!

I haven't taught a "class" per se, but I've had over a few people, made some soap and made some lip balm.

1) Have gloves and eye protection for everyone
2) Mix the lye and water yourself
3) Have the other oils in small containers

In order for them to take home the soap that day, you could use some of those clam shell molds. However, I personally would be too nervous about people taking home raw soap in their car.

Do they want the whole CP experience, or do they just want to add color and fragrance? I think MP would be a much safer, simpler choice than CP.

I would be concerned about liability issues. Where would you have the class? If it's your home, will your insurance cover you?

I have been approached too. When I balked due to liability, someone suggested going through a local community college. I didn't check to see how insurance would work and whether it would cover me too or only the school. If you want to teach though that might be a good avenue as you could use the school's classroom/lab as well as insurance.
