Teach Soap

Hi Folks:

I need help with how to successfully create soap with mica lines.

Each attempt has ended in the layers on either side of the mica line separating at the point of the mica line.

Any help would be appreciated.

Type of mica preferred?

Soaping temp?

It sounds like you're using too much and making the mica line too thick. It needs to be a very thin layer, so that both sides will stick together. I've used micas from several different companies, clays, cocoa powder, you get the idea. I just make sure it's a very thin layer by using a fine mesh sifter. You really don't need much for it to show up in the finished soap.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I tried my first mica line a few weeks ago. Actually, I used an oxide. I didn't have a sifter, so I just sprinkled in on with my fingers. I wasn't sure how thick to make it. I put it on thin, yet covering the soap so I couldn't see the soap batter through it. The bars are still curing and I haven't tried washing with one yet, but so far the two layers have stuck. Hopefully, they will continue to. So perhaps put it on as thin as can be done while covering up the soap beneath? I hope you have success!

I frequently do mica lines. For me, the trick is sprinkling lightly, leaving a lot of base soap showing through. Then I blow on it with a straw to "set" it into the soap. I think you can use pretty much any powder type substance, I use mica for the color.
