Teach Soap

I love colored soap and I hate it. I love beautiful swirls and they are so much fun to make. I hate colored lather and the way some colors stain my wash cloths. It's not because I use too much color. I have watched many videos in which much more color was used than what I do. My question is for all of you who sell your soap. Do your customers ever complain about color on their was cloths? Am I the only one who is bothered by this? I have used many different micas, oxides and ultramarines. It is not just one that does it.

The staining the washcloths is weird. I only had that happen once, when I got too enthusiastic with FD&C blue. What kinds of colors are you using? Are you using the same kinds as in the videos? I use oxcides and never have colored lather or stains. I have gotten a grayish lather from using charcoal, but no stains.

How much color are you using? How large is your recipe? I've only had colored lather once, and that was when I mis-read the amount. I added 2 tsp to a 2 lb batch instead of 1/2 tsp. Of burgundy oxide no less, so my showers were interesting when I used it. I've never had problems with colored lather otherwise. I use ultramarines, micas, and oxides with no problems.

The only time I have colored lather is if I've used too much black oxide. I recently used a dark purple mica at 1 tsp per pound of oils and even that didn't color the lather or washcloth.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I have had colored lather when I didnt use ANY colorant. It was a high vanilla recipe and the soap just lathered brown. I am not bothered by the color and I do get the colored lather, but it doesnt stain, quick rinse of the clothe and its gone.

The second batch of soap I ever made I put in waaaaay to much cocoa powder and it smelled like bleach for weeks (it was unscented). By the time I used it the smell was normal but it made me look like I had a nice tan (and stained the washclothes). It all washed off, thankfully! Since then I have added much smaller amounts of color and have not had problems. I haven't used any mica, etc. for coloring but I in my experience it's all about the quantity of color added.

My lather is not highly colored but I can see a slight tint to it. I know I am not using too much color. I didn't realize that the color was not completely washing out of my cloths until I got new wash cloths that are a cream color. I can see very light stains in my new wash cloths. I hate to use bleach on them but I guess I will try that.
