HELP! I made my first attempts at hot process soap. I haven't been soaping very long. These batches came out ok but the cherry almond Smells off. The other two were Holiday Candy and Rosemary mint. Same ingredients as the other two coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, sunflower oil and castor oil. I superfatted with cocoa butter after it cooked (that was different, the other two had shea) it had a TBS of sodium lactate and a couple drops of silk amino acids added to the lye water and cherry almond fragrance which came out beautifully in the cold process soap I made. I waited til the soap was under 160degrees to add the fragrance. All the soaps smelled kinda funny as I was cooking them but I wasn't sure if that's just how hot process soap works. The crock pot was set on low the whole time. Anyone have any ideas? I used oxides to color it and that seemed kinda off too (as in they were hard to in operate).

Bitter Creek North in WI doesn't have a cherry almond but South in TX does so I'm guessing that's the one you are referring to. A quick check of the site shows that the flashpoint for this FO is 140.

Silk amino acids can give your soap a funny smell. I would use raw silk instead and add it to your water to hydrate, then add the lye. The heat and the high pH of lye will make the silk fibers dissolve. You only need a tiny pinch.
