in my situation the ash is on the sides of the bars (never happened before) after i removed them from the molds...

hi all,

browsing through the old posts to look for soda ash.
apparently i'm having the same problem like having ash forming at the sides.
actually, after unmolding and cutting up. letting them sitting on the rack for air circulating.
few days later, i started to see a thin layer of white film foaming on the sides.
i did the alcohol spray when mixture poured into the mold. this works.
but now sides of the cut soap, the cut area also start having this ash problem.
something to do with the recipe or the temperature when mixing?
will alcohol wiping on soap surface still works now?

Well I have done several 4 oz test bars of different fragrances 12 at a time. Same recipe different fros and guess what. Some fragrances cause soda ash, some heavy ash some light ash and some no ash at all.

I live with it and treat it as part of the bar, sometimes mica sometimes with a few petals of calendula or lavender. Just a bit of other material to accent the top of the bar.

I've tried the alcohol thing and with my recipes and depending on the fragrance it might cause a grittiness on the top of the loaf. For sure fire prevention using a stretch warp over the bar and keeping as much air as possible works for me. All veggie soaps.

You could spritz the inside of your mold with rubbing alcohol before you pour
