Teach Soap

I decided to make a couple loaves of soap tonight while I'm waiting for my favorite tv show to come on. I make a soap with a ribbon of powdered pumice running through it for exfoliation, but I forgot to get the pumice out. When I separated a bit of soap batter to mix the pumice, I realized I forgot it and ran to my closet to get it. Because I was in a hurry I accidentally grabbed my kaolin clay and put it in my batter. I realized it after I did it and tried to get most of the clay out, but it was too late. I decided to go ahead and mix it and added some poppy seed for exfoliation instead.

I have never made a soap with kaolin clay, not sure what it'll come out like.

As it is, the soap gremlins were having fun and as soon as I added my fragrance, my soap accelerated and I had to do the best I could to mix it and mash it into the molds. I may have air bubbles in it, I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope it's not extremely ugly. It's sitting there in the kitchen now, probably overheating.

Kaolin clay is fine in soap. If your soap seizes, let it. Then let it gel right in the pot. When it's in full gel, mix well, then glop into your mold.

Thanks Irena. I think it came out ok, the color looks good, it didn't crack, but I'll see if it got a lot of air bubbles once I cut it. Who knows, my mistake may turn into a favorite!
