Teach Soap

Has anyone used lye from Camden grey.com before? If so, what is your opinion of it? And where can lye be bought for soap making?

I get my lye from Ace Hardware (Rooto Household Drain Opener) and at Lowe's (Roebic Crystal Drain Opener)

Hardware stores will try to tell you to buy regular drain cleaner, until you explain that it's for making soap. As long as the label says "100% Sodium Hydroxide", you're good to go!

i have looked for lye everywhere near where i live. it is like its against the law to have it instore...

Try asking about it. Lye is used to make meth, so some stores will keep it out of sight. You may need to show ID to buy it. I buy mine at a small mom-and-pop hardware store.

If you want to buy in bulk, you can check out chemical supply companies. I recently bought 200 lbs from a chemical supply company. 200 lbs was the minimum.
