Teach Soap

I should have stuck with BBs lye calc or soap calc since I've always had success with them, but is used a new iPhone app and didn't cross check it against another until it was too late. It recommended 6.26 oz of lye for a 5% but after I ran it thru a different lye Calc looks like that's to little lye and a big superfat. I ended up using the below and was wondering if it will ever harden. Any tips on getting it solid. I was thinking about cooking it in crockpot, spreading it thin and scraping hard bits. Right now it's in a loaf mold and the texture is gelly like.




15.4 oz olive oil
2 oz castor
2 oz avocado oil
11 oz palm
4.4 oz palm kernel flakes
13.2 oz coconut oil
6.40 lye

I just ran your recipe through the regular soapcalc and 6.26 oz of lye was for a 15% superfat. Is it possible you typed in 15% in error? 6.4 oz would be about 12.5% superfat. 5% would be 6.99 oz of lye.

Good point. Thanks for taking the time to look into it for me. I double-checked and it looks like the soap calc pro app for iPhone is not accurate, though at one time it worked fine. I think I will stick with the old faithfuls from now on. I tried to attach the pic of the recipe with the 5% showing but the file is too big.

I ended up following BBs hot process hero tutorial to try and save it and it helped a lot. As the soap cooked, the extra oil started to separate out a from the rest of the soap and I was able to siphon off extra oil, but it was even more than I expected about a 1/2 cup. I'm wondering if besides the lye miscalculation if the lye was not as effective. It was a year old container, but it had never been opened and it was free flowing and not clumpy or "wet" looking.
