Hi Folks -

I have a recurring situation that I cannot seem to resolve.

The best way I can describe it is, when I am doing a multi-color swirl (for instance, not limited to), the resulting soap has gel-looking swirls within each color. I do not know if I am using too much EOs, I did not get the EOs blended well or just what. I will have to check, but it seems to happen on the batches I use EOs in and not FOs.

By the way, is there a universal rule of thumb for how much EO to use per lb. of base oils? I know there are standards of usage for type of EO, but I am just curious if there is a guideline.

Do you have a pic of the gel in the swirls?
There is no universal rule of thumb for how much EO to use per lb. of base oils. You need to research each one individually.

I was just looking around at different soaping "issues" and saw the term "glycerine rivers" used. I think that this is the best way to describe what I am experiencing. I found nothing further as to its cause/cure.

"Glycerin rivers" are thought to be caused by a couple things: too much titanium dioxide and/or gelling at too high a temp, although one soapmaker recently experimented and found that a water discount also helps discourage them from forming.
