Hi all,
I unmolded my latest attempt today - an 'impressionist' soap in a silicon log mold, from Anne-Marie's tutorial :). I had a wee bit of trouble getting it out of the mold (made day before yesterday) and then didn't cut it because it's a bit soft and sticky. If I leave it for another day, will it be safe to cut? It's so pretty and I was so thrilled at the way it seemed to turn out I don't want to mess it up now.....have been soaping for about 6-8 weeks and probably shouldn't really have tried this but I'm totally hooked :)
Thanks for any advice!
Robyn

This happened to me with my 3rd batch. It was a bit sticky. I think it needed a bit more time in the mold. Maybe leave it uncut until it get a bit more harder but not too much. That what I would do anyway :)

I get my soap out of the mold usually in 24 hours. If it's still a bit soft and sticky, I just take off all the freezer paper and let it breathe until it's hard enough to cut without dragging on the cutting blade. Usually it's fine in another 24 hours. CPOP soap is typically ready to cut the next day, but if I don't CPOP, it can be up to four or even five days. Granted, I also live in a very humid climate! :D

Depending on the recipe, whether or not I let it gel, and sometimes even what additives I use, I've had to wait upwards of a week to unmold from a silicon mold. Don't cut it while it's still sticky, wait until it's firmed up.

I would give it more time.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I live in a humid climate too but it's cooling down for Autumn now thank goodness and not so hot and damp. I couldn't wait and slicedmy soap this morning. It was a bit sticky and I should have waited a bit longer but I just had to see inside. No damage and it looks pretty - I think my squirting technique could use some work, it's a bit lower in the middle than on the ends but overall I'm happy and will keep practising! I will know next time to leave it in the mould a bit longer though. Does baby oil count as mineral oil? I read on one of the posts that a bit of oil in the corners of silicon moulds helps with the sticking.

Silicone molds should not need mineral oil unless your soap starts out extremely soft. If that's the case, you would be better off putting the silicone mold in the freezer. Ungelled soaps can start out soft. Next time, try a recipe with harder oils.
