Teach Soap

I’m new at soap making, have only made 10 batches so far. I notice most recipes call for Palm Oil. Well, I finally found some locally. It’s “Spectrumâ€

I've never used palm oil, only palm kernel...which I like for its hardness. IMO, buying "unusual" oils from the grocery makes me wonder how fresh they are. You KNOW tons of folks buy crisco, soy, etc....but what's the market on palm oil? I have no idea, and I don;t know what kind of inventory turnover they have.

FWIW, BB carries it at a rate of $9 for FOUR pounds.

I don't use palm either. I prefer other oils.

Do you have a Whole Foods supermarket near you? They sell organic palm oil 1.5 lb containersfor $4.99, still pricey, but better than $8.50! It's sold under their label, "365 organic" and marketed as vegetable shortening; however, if you read the label it is 100% palm oil. They do carry Spectrum as well, but I haven't used it as it is more expensive. I've been happy with the 365 brand. Good luck!

Thank you all for the replies! You all are the BEST! I’m going to stop by the natural food store in Columbia after work on payday. It's the only health food store around here. The prices on everything in that store are sky high. I don't have the patients to wait for some to be shipped. I want to try it NOW. LOL. I’ll buy a small amount and try it at the 20% or 22.5%.
