I have ben trying to get on this forum, for what seems like a week or more. And after I make my first batch of soap, my membership comes though! lol I made a bunch of un-scented goat milk soap, my first soap ever! I have been wanting to make soap for 4 or more years and finally got it together. I scalded the milk, and was mixing by hand,so there was still little pieces of milk in the soap when I put it in the mold. But I sure hope it comes out useble! So anyways, I am from Oregon, and wanted to start to make soap for my family and hope to sell it after making many batches! You guys seem to have pretty good fun on here, and am glad to join! I am not sure I can wait for the soap to be done to see if I did it right!

Hi Katie!
I'm a goatherder also. I use fresh frozen goatmilk in all my soap-- I love the feel of it! I milk, strain and pour into ziplock baggies and put into the freezer as flat as possible. Then I use a meat mallot to hit the frozen milk bag and break it into pieces. I weigh out the frozen pieces, then add my weighed out lye. Stir, stir, stir and the lye melts the milk but stays creamy white. Then you can add it to your melted oils. By the way--- it's true what everyone says about a stick blender--- it's worth every penny of it--- you should definitely get one!

Well, I know know, I peeked! :shock:

It looks good so far, other then you can see pieces of the goats milk at the bottom but not alot and there is only a tiny tiny spot of oil in a corner on top, very small I almost did not see it! Did I mention that it took me almost 2 hours to trace! I think maybe because I have a very big pot for soap making, and I was not moving it arund as much if there was more. I only did a 2 pound recipe, well it was a 1 pound but I doubled it because I knew I would not be able to stir it on the bottom of the pot! I hope I will have time to make more soap today! GTG!

a stick blender, I want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. Thats like in some stores and they call it a drink mixer sometimes? I am trying to do the soap all by hand, or handmade. Does using a stick blender count as handmade/done? Just making sure. Anyways, looks like I won't be able to make soap today! :cry:

So I think I will pick up a blender at Bi-mart or something when I go to work todday. And first thing tomorrow, anybody want to guess what I will be doing? :wink:
